AND UNTO [the tribe of] Thamud [We sent] their brother salih He said: "O my people! Worship God alone: you have no deity other than Him. Clear evidence of the truth has now come unto you from your Sustainer. "This she-camel belonging to God shall be a token for you: so leave her alone to pasture on God's earth, and do her no harm, lest grievous chastisement befall you. 73 "And remember how He made you inheritors after the 'Ad people and gave you habitations in the land: ye build for yourselves palaces and castles in (open) plains, and carve out homes in the mountains; so bring to remembrance the benefits (ye have received) from Allah, and refrain from evil and mischief on the earth." 74 The proud assembly of his nation said to the weak? amongst them who believed: 'Do you really believe that Salih is sent from his Lord' They answered: 'We believe in that with which he was sent' 75 Those who were arrogant said: "Verily, we disbelieve in that which you believe in." 76 So they hamstrung the She-camel and turned in disdain from the commandment of their Lord, saying, 'O Salih, bring us that thou promisest us, if thou art an Envoy.' 77 Thereupon a shocking catastrophe seized them, so that they lay prostrate in their dwellings. 78 And Salih left them, saying: 'O my people! I conveyed to you the message of my Lord and gave you good advice; but you have no liking for your well-wishers.' 79 And We sent Lot, who said to his people: "Why do you commit this lecherous act which none in the world has committed before? 80 See, you approach men lustfully instead of women; no, you are a people that do exceed.' 81 And his people had no answer except to say, “Turn them out of your dwellings; these are people who wish purity!” 82 But We saved him and his family, except for his wife who was one of those who stayed behind. 83 And We rained down on them a rain (of stones).
