۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?" 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 They said: We heard a youth called Ibrahim speak of them. 60 They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." 61 They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allah! Have you then no sense?" 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 We admitted him to Our Mercy, he was among the righteous. 75
