Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Aye! they're in doubt sporting. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 If you do not believe in me, at least keep away from me." 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How much they left behind of gardens and springs 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
