A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients?' 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers – 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
