No! By the moon 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 As a warning to humanity - 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 we fed not the needy, 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys. 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 So, whoever wills may benefit from it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
