The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 Then He inspired it to understand what is right and wrong for it; 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
