Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 The Day when neither wealth nor sons shall benefit 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 When Paradise shall be brought near to the God-fearing 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 nor any loving friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
