A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 (they shall live) amid burning winds and boiling water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Proclaim, "Without doubt all - the former and the latter." 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers - 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 "We have fallen into debt; 66 "In fact, we were unfortunate!" 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
