Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 We are removing the punishment a little, but you revert. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
