He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe of God 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
