۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave? 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 He said, "[No], rather, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who created them, and I, to that, am of those who testify. 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 (When the people came to the temple and saw the broken idols) they asked each other, "Who has done this to our gods? He certainly is an unjust person". 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Do you then worship besides Allah, things that can neither profit you, nor harm you? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 And We made them leaders guiding by Our command. And We inspired to them the doing of good deeds, establishment of prayer, and giving of zakah; and they were worshippers of Us. 73 To Lot We gave knowledge and wisdom and saved him from the people of the town who were committing indecent acts. They were certainly a bad and sinful people. 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
