And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 “They are all my enemies, except the Lord Of The Creation.” 77 who created me, and Himself guides me, 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 My Lord, give me Judgment, and join me with the righteous, 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 The idol worshippers, the idols, the rebellious ones, 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 By Allah, we were truly in a manifest error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
