The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
