The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
