The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
