Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 gardens and fountains. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
