(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
