The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
