The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 Perchance the unbelievers will wish that they had surrendered: 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy life and let false hopes amuse them. They will soon come to know. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We do not send down the angels (in frivolity); and when We do send them down, We do so with Truth; then people are granted no respite. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 So We make it enter the hearts of the sinners. 12 They do not believe in the Truth and they exactly follow the tradition of the ancient (unbelievers) 13 And if We opened upon them a door of the heaven, and they passed the day mounting thereto. 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
