The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
ALL PRAISE is due to God, who has bestowed this divine writ from on high upon His servant, and has not allowed any deviousness to obscure its meaning: 1 (But hath made it) straight, to give warning of stern punishment from Him, and to bring unto the believers who do good works the news that theirs will be a fair reward, 2 In which they will abide forever. 3 and admonish those who say that God has begotten a son. 4 (A thing) whereof they have no knowledge, nor (had) their fathers, Dreadful is the word that cometh out of their mouths. They speak naught but a lie. 5 Will you kill yourself for grief of them if they do not believe in this presentation? 6 We have appointed all that is on the earth an adornment for it, in order that We try which of them is finest in works. 7 And indeed, We will make that which is upon it [into] a barren ground. 8 Or deemest thou that the People of the Cave and the Inscription are a wonder among Our portents? 9 Behold, the youths betook themselves to the Cave: they said, "Our Lord! bestow on us Mercy from Thyself, and dispose of our affair for us in the right way!" 10 And thereupon We veiled their ears in the cave for many a year, 11 and then roused them so that We might see which of the two parties could best tell the length of their stay. 12
