۞ “Gather all the unjust persons and their spouses, and all that they used to worship!” – 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 'But what is the matter with you that you cannot help one another?,'" 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 And they will turn to one another and question one another. 27 They said, “It is you who used to come to us from our right, in order to sway.” 28 They will say, "No! It was you who would not believe -- 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 But the chosen servants of God; 40 [in the hereafter,] theirs shall be a sustenance which they will recognize 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 White, delicious to those who drink. 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 One of them says, 'I had a comrade 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 He will look down and see him in hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 So, are we not going to die, 58 except for our first death? Are we not going to be punished? 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? 62 Verily, We have caused it to be a trial for evildoers: 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 Then their return will be to the same blazing Hell. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps! 70 And assuredly there went stray before them many of the ancients. 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
