Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
