The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And clustered plantains, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
