The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 or orders piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
