Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
