The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and spreading shade 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
