He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruit and grass - 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and his consort and his children; 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyous 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
