The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 and casts out all that is within it and becomes empty; 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, 10 Soon will he cry for perdition, 11 And he shall roast into a Blaze. 12 Verily, he was among his people in joy! 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?- 20 and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 and Allah knows very well what they gather. 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 Except those who believed and did good deeds – for them is a reward that will never end. 25
