The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
