The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and he belied the finest 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
