Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
