Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 Warn the men. 36 To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Except those on the right side. 39 Sitting in the gardens, asking 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 "What led you into Hell Fire?" 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 And did not feed the needy, 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 but this is truly a reminder. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
