The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and affirmed the Truth of goodness: 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
