A multitude from the ancients. 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
