The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 and no one will be able to prevent it. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will go to one another asking each other questions: 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
