Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
