The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 And [by] the frequented House 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 such as play at plunging, 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
