The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the star when it plunges, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
