He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
