When We said to the angels: ''Bow before Adam,'' they all bowed but Iblis, who refused. 116 Therefor we said: O Adam! This is an enemy unto thee and unto thy wife, so let him not drive you both out of the Garden so that thou come to toil. 117 (for in Paradise) neither are you hungry nor naked, 118 And you (will) suffer not from thirst therein nor from the sun's heat. 119 Then Shaitan (Satan) whispered to him, saying: "O Adam! Shall I lead you to the Tree of Eternity and to a kingdom that will never waste away?" 120 So the two of them ate of it, and their shameful parts revealed to them, and they took to stitching upon themselves leaves of the Garden. And Adam disobeyed his Lord, and so he erred. 121 Thereafter, [however,] his Sustainer elected him [for His grace,] and accepted his repentance, and bestowed His guidance upon him, 122 God then told them, "Get out of here all of you; you are each other's enemies. When My guidance comes to you, those who follow it will not go astray nor will they endure any misery. 123 but whosoever turns away from My remembrance, his life shall be narrow and on the Day of Resurrection We shall raise him blind' 124 He will ask: "O Lord, why have you raised me blind when I was able to see?" 125 He will say: So (it must be). Our revelations came unto thee but thou didst forget them. In like manner thou art forgotten this Day. 126 So We recompense him who is prodigal and believes not in the signs of his Lord; and the chastisement of the world to come is more terrible and more enduring. 127 Hath it not served as guidance to them how many a generation We have destroyed before them, amidst whose dwellings they walk! Verily therein are signs for men of sagacity. 128
