The people of Lot rejected the Messengers. 160 When their fellowman Lut said to them, “Do you not fear?” 161 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 162 So fear God and listen to me. 163 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 164 What, do you come to the males of the world, 165 “And leave the wives your Lord has created for you? In fact you are people who exceed the limits.” 166 Said they: "Indeed, If thou desist not, O Lot, thou wilt most certainly be expelled [from this township]!" 167 He said, "I am one of those who abhors your ways. 168 My Lord, deliver me and my family from their wicked deeds." 169 Thereupon We saved him and all his household 170 Except one old woman, who stayed behind. 171 We destroyed the others 172 by pouring upon them a terrible shower of rain. How evil was the rain for those who had been warned! 173 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 174 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 175
