The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 but, We see it as near! 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
