The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 And rejects the best, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
