The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from a clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
