And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 For, [on that Day,] paradise will be brought within sight of the God-conscious, 90 and hell will be left open for the rebellious ones 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And none has brought us into error except the Mujrimun [Iblis (Satan) and those of human beings who commit crimes, murderers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.]. 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 nor a loving friend. 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
