Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
