Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a lofty garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
