The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
