He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
