There is a sign for them in the lifeless earth. We revive it and We produce grain from it of which they eat. 33 And We have placed therein gardens of the date-palm and grapes, and We have caused springs of water to gush forth therein, 34 so that they may consume the fruits and whatever their hands prepare. Will they not then be grateful? 35 Holy is He who created all things in pairs; of what the earth grows, and of themselves, and other things which they do not know. 36 And a sign for them is the night; We strip it of the day and lo, they are in darkness. 37 And the sun runneth on unto a resting-place for him. That is the measuring of the Mighty, the Wise. 38 We have ordained phases for the moon until finally it becomes like an old date-stalk. 39 It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day. They all float, each in an orbit. 40 And a Sign for them is that We bore their race (through the Flood) in the loaded Ark; 41 And We have created for them the like of it, what they will ride on. 42 Had We wanted, We could have drowned them and nothing would have been able to help or rescue them 43 unless it be by an act of mercy from Us and a grant of life for a [further span of] time. 44 But when it is said to them, "Beware of what is before you and what is behind you; perhaps you will receive mercy... " 45 Yet there never comes to them any sign of their Lord's signs, but they turn away from it. 46 When they are told: "Spend of what God has given you," the unbelievers say to those who believe: "Why should we feed those whom God should have fed if He pleased?" You are only in palpable error. 47 And they say: "When will this promise (i.e. Resurrection) be fulfilled, if you are truthful?" 48 They await only but a single Saihah (shout, etc.), which will seize them while they are disputing! 49 and so [sudden will be their end that] no testament will they be able to make, - nor to their own people will they return! 50
